NOTES:

Published by Whitman Publishing Company, the 1939 100th Anniversary Edition of Major League Baseball Facts & Figures and Official Rules was edited by Chicago White Sox play-by-play announcer Bob Elson. The cover features the 1839-1939 Baseball Centennial Insignia. In commemoration of the 100th anniversary of organized baseball, the Official Insignia of Baseball’s Centennial had been adopted for flags which to be flown from all of the parks. The design was also used on such items as stationary, publications, advertising, and uniform patches worn by the players during the year.

The 240 page book includes 1939 rosters; home run champs; batting, fielding, and pitching champs; schedules, standings, a detailed review the 1938 World Series between the Chicago Cubs and NY Yankees. All time leaders, and current rules of the game. Several pages dedicated to the National Baseball Hall of Fame, including "Actual Reproductions From Bronze Plaques In The National Baseball Museum."

Pages 3-8 covers the story about "Baseball's Centennial," Cooperstown the birthplace of baseball, Abner Doubleday, and Alexander Cartwright. Other articles include "Undisputed Strike Out King" Bob Feller Sets a New Mark of 18 For One Game; Those New York Yankees" 1927 Verses 1938; Johnny Vander Meer consecutive no-hitters. and Hank Greenberg 58 home run record. Page 20: "A Loss To Baseball" an article about Monty Stratton, who lost his leg in a hunting accident, in 1938.

A slip of paper was inserted into the book which reads: "A Correction for page 48 - Through a typographical error, the statistical information on pitcher Charles Ruffing, appearing in the New York Yankees Roster on page 49 is incorrect...." (the correction was then listed)
