Ozzie Smith's Restaurant &
Sports Bar opened at 645 West Point
Plaza, in St. Louis MO, in December of
1988. The walls were adorned with
dozens of photos of Ozzie; St. Louis
Blues and Cardinal jerseys, game used
bats, and a one-of-a-kind mural showing
him batting, stealing, and a number of
other depictions of Ozzie in action.
Twenty-two television sets leaves no
seat without a view.
The Ozzie's Restaurant & Sports Bar menu illustrations are done by Amadee
Wohlschlaeger. Amadee, as he signs his
work, was a St. Louis Post Dispatch
cartoonist. His work appeared
frequently on the pages of the Sporting
News. The menus that were printed in
black-&-white have a 1991 copyright,
the color menus have a 1993 copyright.
The house specialties come under headings, accompanied with the
illustrations such as: "The Wizards
Specials" with Ozzie in magician
clothes; "All Star Steaks" Ozzie
turning a double play; "Gone Fishing"
with Whitey Herzog in a boat fishing;
"The Mexican Connection" with Ozzie,
Vince Coleman and Willie McGee dressed
as the "Three Amigos;" and "The
Knockout Burgers" with Ozzie doing his
famous flip.
Ozzie's Restaurant & Sports Bar printed a monthly Events Calendar, which
was also sent out to customer that
signed up to the mailing list. The
January 1993 events calendar advertised
Ozzie's Instructional video, "Shortstop
to Success", which was available at the
gift shop. The check features a St.
Louis Cardinals Busch Memorial Stadium
watermark on the front, and advertises
the gift shop on the back.
