The A.J. Reach club size bat bags
were made in two sizes; catalog
designation BB1 held 12 bats, and BB3
held 6 bats. From 1906 to 1909 the bags
were made with extra heavy olive canvas
and strap leather trim. The bags from
1910 to 1928 were made of brown canvas.
The first Reach Club Bat
Bags in 1906 and 1907 were given the the catalog
designation No. 2 (BB1 - 12 bats), and
No. 5 (BB3 - 6 bats) Individual bat bag
which held two bats included models BB2,
BB4, BB5, BB6, and BB7. These bat bag
have an estimated value of about
$60.-$120.
After Reach merged with Wright & Ditson in 1929, the bat bags were given
the catalog designation No. 202; and
were made with heavy strap
leather-reinforced duck, heavy fiber
riveted to the bottom for strength,
four flap top opening with two sets of
straps and buckle closings.
The St. John's School Baseball Club was a High School team, part of the
historic Catholic cathedral and parish
church located in Paterson, New Jersey.
St. John’s School opened in 1835, and
is the oldest Catholic school in the
state. The school was the named St.
John's Cathedral School after 1937,
when Pope Pius XI named the Church of
St. John the Baptist as the Cathedral,
or seat of the Bishop, for the new
Catholic Diocese of Paterson which he
established on that day.
