In 1970 McDonald's sponsored a Run,
Bunt, Hit, and Throw Contest in
Wisconsin and Illinois. Boy's and girls
between the ages of 8 and 13 were
eligible to register at McDonald's to
participate in the contest. The youths
were divided into three divisions, 8-9
year olds, 10-11 year olds, and 12- 13
year olds. Winners and runner-ups were
presented with trophies, plaques, and
baseball equipment. Winners at the
finals went to the World Series with a
parent or guardian.
Run - 8 ad 9 year old contestants were timed on a run
from home to second base; 10-11 year
olds were timed on a run from home to
third base; 12-13 year olds were timed
on a run completely around the bases.
Throw - 8-9 year old
contestants threw three balls at a
target 50 feet away; 10-11 year olds 60
feet away, and 12-13 year olds 80 feet
away. Bunt - All
contestants were allowed three bunt
attempts at a half-moon target marked
off between the first or third base
lines. Hit - All
Contestants received three swings to
hit the ball for distance off a
pitching machine.
